I decided to wait until the end of the weekend in order to let the events of this past week play out; namely the riots across the USA. As of Sunday night, I think the riots have culminated and with the deployment of the National Guard across many states, we should see reduced violence. I really don't think these events will impact the overall stock markets but individual companies like Target are likely to suffer. On the COVID-19 front, I think we have also culminated with many of the largest states already in their phase 2 reopening (whatever that means) and businesses are starting to reopen. I would pay attention to the unemployment numbers as they will be a real barometer for whether we experience a 'V' recovery or if we have a slower 'U' recovery. Many economists think the 'V' recovery is more likely with pent up demand and a desire for many people to get back to work. On the international stage, we are seeing worsening tensions between the US and China, but the trade deal seems to be holding. As for this month, we had another solid one, with the S Funds turn to make a rebound from their COVID-19 lows. The S Fund is always riskier than the C Fund, and while it was appealing last month, I decided to remain in a fund where I felt the risk vs reward profile was the lowest. Going forward, I'm staying in the C Fund for the same reasons. Movements in the unemployment number or additional shocks can quickly cause the S Fund to move negative. Keep investing!
