We are one quarter into the year, and we are basically even. With all the volatility in the market, many people seem to want to follow the ups and downs by buying and selling throughout the month. As TSP participants, we can't trade more than twice a month, and I don't recommend that approach for any investments. If you are a value investor, you choose a company, conduct research into the underlying fundamentals, and if strong, you invest for the long-term. This approach has proven to be very beneficial for Berkshire Hathaway and other value investors. I was asked today by my neighbor what I thought about the market. He is in the Vanguard funds and 3 months ago he moved everything to bonds. His risk profile is very different from mine, but he had not conducted any research into why he wanted to move his investments to bonds. It was an emotional decision. This is another reason why I only trade the TSP once a month, it keeps emotion out of the calculus and relies on the facts and underlying fundamentals of each fund, how they perform against each other, and what the overall economy is doing. So my response to him was, I'm staying invested in stocks, and I'm not concerned about the recent swings cause by geopolitics and tariffs. My analysis for TSP shows a very tight range in the efficient frontier, meaning any of the stock funds could be positive next month. However, the S and I Funds look the most promising.
